Gandhi made life better for many poor people, helping them to make a decent living. He also encouraged the production of local products such as yarn and cloth. He was famous for the clothes he wore because he made his own. This was called the “Dhothi” which was spun from cotton using the spinning wheel. The Indian flag has 24 spokes in the middle to represent the spinning wheel.
